Many Tottenham Hotspur fans were left questioning the whereabouts of Erik Lamela after the team was announced for the match against Leicester City this afternoon.

The Argentine midfielder was not named on the bench or in the starting line up for the Premier League clash at Wembley Stadium.

It has been confirmed that the 26-year-old sits out the visit of the Foxes after suffering a back spasm and it is hoped that he will be fit to be considered for Wednesday night’s Champions League first leg against Borussia Dortmund.

Lamela joins the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Ben Davies, Vincent Janssen and Eric Dier in missing today’s match.

The player had been in impressive form earlier in the season having scored six goals in all competitions before the beginning of December, but has since dropped off to his form of old – attempting frustrating flicks and picking up needless yellow cards.
