Given 10 minutes to make a difference but did very little in the time he was given.

Even with Spurs in disappointing form, most fans thought this game against Colchester was a guaranteed win and progress into the next round. However, what transpired was what all fans dreaded. The players looked devoid of ideas, confidence and were lacklustre all over the pitch. Even the addition of Son, Eriksen and Lamela made little difference against a tiring defence.

Admittedly, there were several players coming back from injury and two players making their debuts but the starting line-up included 7 international players. We were also playing a team THREE divisions below us.

This game should have been wrapped up early with Spurs making a good start to the match and Parrott could have grabbed a goal or two by half time. Colchester were very resilient in defence but Spurs were slow in their play with few one-touch passes on show. Despite having 19 shots on goal, only 4 were on target, another disappointing feature of our attacking play.

This is one of the worst results in Spurs’ recent history and while some fans will say that it was only the Carabao Cup, it was the performance that will concern the fans most. Furthermore, it was also an opportunity to win a trophy.

The only slight positive now is that we will have a slightly reduced fixture list, which is good considering how disappointing our back-up eleven were.
