Father of Brazilian midfielder claims that Tottenham are interested in signing his son

The father of Flamengo midfielder Gerson has claimed that there is interest from Europe in his son.

Gerson came up through the ranks at Fluminese before landing a €15m move to Italian side Roma in 2016 (Reuters).

The left-footed player failed to make in impression with the Giallorossi and was subsequently loaned out to fellow Serie A side Fiorentina for the 2018/19 season.

He returned to Brazil in the summer of 2018 and has become a key member of the Flamengo squad which went on to win the Copa Libertadores final against River Plate along with success in the Campeonato Carioca and Brasileirão.

His father revealed in an interview with ESPN Brasil journalist Jorge Nicola that there is interest from Tottenham along with North London rivals Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund while Ligue 1 outfit Nice attempted to sign him last season.

Spurs’ chief scout Steve Hitchen travelled to Brazil late last year to cast his eye on South American talent which included taking in a game between Gremio and Flamengo which Gerson featured in (Globo).
