Five memorable Tottenham Hotspur debuts

Eric Dier

Dier made his competitive debut for the club on the first day of the 2014–15 Premier League season away to West Ham United and instantly found his way into the hearts of Spurs fans with his injury time winner to silence the home crowd.

Jurgen Klinsmann

It was the opening day of the 1994/95 Premier League season and I was still in disbelief that we managed to sign Jurgen Klinsmann, even when he bulleted a header past Sheffield Wednesday on his debut for us in our 4-3 win.  His famous ‘dive’ has probably been televised more than his goal!

Danny Rose

Just ten minutes into his debut against our most hated rivals, up stepped Danny Rose to rocket in a stunning left-footed volley to send the Lane into raptures.

Colin Lee

Lee joined us from Torquay for 60 grand in 1977 and made an immediate impact on his debut by netting four in our 9-0 win against Bristol Rovers at the Lane. He helped us to promotion at the end of that season and later played for Chelsea. The less said the better.

Mido

The Egyptian joined us on an 18-month loan deal in January 2005 from Roma and had Spurs fans sitting up after scoring two goals on his debut against Portsmouth at the Lane. He eventually admitted he made a mistake by joining Tottenham on a permanent deal and was shipped off to Middlesbrough, where he ended up scoring against us. How Spursy!

Notable mentions go to Jose Dominguez who we thought was going to be the next Maradona after his debut against Derby County, Robbie Keane’s debut display in which he won a penalty during a 3–2 win over West Ham and Jimmy Greaves’ hat-trick against Blackpool – what a legend.
