Former coach hints at double Spurs exit

Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele are both likely to depart Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to one of their former coaches.

Vital Borkelmans played in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups for Belgium and was also assistant to manager Marc Wilmots for the national side between 2012-16 where both Alderweireld and Dembele were part of his side.

Both players have been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs with no sign of new deals being agreed. Alderweireld has been continually linked with a move to Manchester United over the past couple of months, however, Borkelmans has hinted that the central defender could be set for a move away from the Premier League, rather than an Old Trafford switch.

Dembele, who is 31 next month has been attracting interest from a number of clubs in Italy and China as he looks for one big payday before his career comes to an end.

Borkelmans told Bwin: “I think [Toby] Alderweireld will leave this window and he may take the chance to move abroad. [Mousa] Dembele may do the same as well, as every team is looking to have a player like Alderweireld or Dembele.

“They’ve played a few years at Tottenham now and for as many good players that Tottenham have brought in, they have also lost some.”
