Former Man Utd player explains why he wanted Pochettino at Old Trafford

Paul Ince believes that Mauricio Pochettino is the ideal fit to take over as manager at Manchester United.

While Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a difficult start to the season after only managing to pick up eleven points from their opening eight fixtures, United find themselves further down the table with just nine points.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under pressure from critics but has been defended by United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward (BBC).

Despite Tottenham’s troubles which have seen them exit the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two Colchester United and thrashed 7-2 in the Champions League by Bayern Munich, Pochettino has insisted that he will not walk away from North London and could still be in charge in five year’s time (Sky Sports).

Ince claims that he holds Pochettino in high regard and has now changed his opinion on the Argentine despite how this season has so far unfolded.

Ince told FourFourTwo: “At the time last season, I felt Pochettino was the man,”

“He was an ideal fit for Manchester United, given the finances he’d have at his disposal at Old Trafford, compared to what he has at Tottenham. It would have been the next step for him, but obviously that wasn’t to be. What’s happened at Tottenham this season doesn’t change the way I felt then.”

Opinion

While United are historically a bigger club, Pochettino would be foolish to move to United and instead should continue to learn his trade at Tottenham before getting his dream switch to Spain.
