Former Man Utd star claims Spurs must sell key duo to re-build squad

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur should sell stars such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli to help towards a rebuild.

Evra appeared as a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show and was asked for his opinion on the current situation at Spurs prior to the live televised match between Sheffield United and Arsenal.

The 38-year-old believes that with the core of Mauricio Pochettino’s side having been together for six years and having not managed to have won a trophy during the period, it can become mentally draining for the players.

On Sunday, Roy Keane called for United to go out and try to land Harry Kane to help solve their striking crisis after being left without an out-and-out goalscorer since selling Romelu Lukaku during the summer transfer window.

Tottenham have failed to build upon their appearance in last season’s Champions League final having struggled in cup competitions along with the Premier League during the current campaign.

During Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show on 21/10/19 from 7:30pm, host David Jones asked Evra: “Should [Spurs] start thinking about selling Harry Kane, selling Dele Alli, to try and raise funds to improve the rest of the squad?”

Evra replied: “Exactly, they have to rebuild the team,”

“It’s six years they’ve been playing together and the problem is like, when it is a long period you’re playing together and you don’t win something, mentally it is really difficult to recover after that.”
