Former player backs Poch to do something special at Spurs

Alan Hutton believes that Mauricio Pochettino can turn things around at Tottenham Hotspur if he is given the time to do so.

Spurs have failed to progress from being Champions League finalists last season to struggling in then Premier League and found themselves in the bottom half of the table.

They have also suffered indifferent form in cup competitions having suffered embarrassment at the hands of both Bayern Munich and Colchester United.

Spurs now face missing out on Champions League qualification for next season should they continue to struggle in the top flight which could be catastrophic in terms of missing out on extra revenue and being able to attract top transfer targets.

Hutton, who played for Spurs earlier in his career after joining from Glasgow Rangers is insistent that the Argentine can turn Spurs into something special.

He cited the fact that some of the problems at the club have been out of his control, such as the contract situations of key players such as Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen who are all free agents in the summer.

“I think if you give Pochettino time he can turn it around. There has been a lot of circumstances out of his control at the start of the season with players and contracts,” Hutton told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

“I think if he can sort that out in the next few transfer windows he can make something special there.”
