Former record signing to extend spell with Spurs?

Tottenham Hotspur are reported to have started to hold discussions with Erik Lamela over a new deal at the club.

The Argentina winger joined from Italian outfit Roma in August 2013 for a then club-record £30m on a four-year contract.

That deal was known to have an option for a further two seasons, which the club activated, and it was revealed earlier this year that Tottenham can trigger an additional year.

Gianluca Di Marion, a journalist for Sky Sport in Italy claims that the talks between both parties are meeting to discuss a deal until either 2021 or 2022. However, I would suggest that the talks are about the extension to the current contract rather than a new deal.

Lamela has had an injury-hit time at Tottenham which included a 13-month spell on the sidelines due to hip problems.

Personally, I have been disappointed with Lamela’s impact at Tottenham, he came with such promise but all that sticks in my mind is a Europa League rabona, and a decent final game of the season against Leicester City.
