Former Spur believes European giant could tempt Pochettino and star man

Gus Poyet has claimed that Real Madrid could still be the club that could hamper Tottenham Hotspur’s progression.

The former Spurs midfielder believes that the Spanish giants could still tempt Mauricio Pochettino to swap the Premier League for La Liga.

The 46-year-old has been heavily linked with European champions Real, who sacked Julen Lopetegui in October after a 5-1 defeat by Barcelona.

Santiago Solari has since been handed the reigns, but this has not stopped the rumour mill from linking Pochettino with a potential switch to the Bernabéu.

Pochettino and his backroom staff signed a new five-year contract with the club during the summer amid intense speculation that Madrid were keen on his services following the resignation of Zinedine Zidane.

Poyet, who played for Spurs between 2001 and 2004 fears that if Pochettino was to make the move to Spain that he could possibly also take star striker Harry Kane with him and significantly dent Tottenham’s impressive progression over the past few years.

“It’s one club [who could get Pochettino]. Real Madrid is the problem. For Harry Kane as well”, Poyet said on beIN Sports Soccer Saturday (15/12).

“If Mauricio Pochettino went to Real Madrid, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry Kane follows him.

“And then we’ve got a different Spurs.”
