Former Spur urges club to sign pair to transform the midfield

Tottenham Hotspur have already made the footballing world sit up and take notice when they completed the transfer of the highly coveted Tanguy Ndombele.

The French international was said to have also been on the radar of a host of European giants including Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United.

Ndombele is regarded as an energetic box to box midfielder who will certainly act as a buffer to be able to give Tottenham’s attacking players space and licence to put the ball in the back of the net.

Former Spurs full-back Pascal Chimbonda believes that the club should look to bring in Donny van de Beek from Ajax along with Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso.

He singled out the importance of recruiting an attacking midfielder if Christian Eriksen departs the club this summer and believes that the pair are able to act as a link between attack and defence whilst also being able to put the ball in the back of the net.

He told Sportingbet: “Van de Beek would be a great signing for Tottenham. They need to sign a creative midfielder this summer, especially if Eriksen leaves. Both Lo Celso and Van de Beek would offer them that creative spark going forward.

“Tottenham have a lot of deep lying midfielders that offer protection for the more attacking players, but they need a player that can offer goals and connect the defence and attack. At the moment, they have players that are very good at doing one, but not both. Lo Celso and Van de Beek would offer both.”

Opinion

If Spurs were able to sign both van de Beek and Lo Celso it would be a remarkable transfer window.

The reality is that both players would cost a combined fee in excess of £100million which seems very unlikely that Pochettino would receive such funds unless he generates the money from the sale of Eriksen along with some of the squad players.
