Well, Son and Eriksen, came on and made an immediate impact, both. Could we have had them on from the start? We understand why not but their absence for so long possibly cost that vital second goal. Was Dier’s appearance one of ‘hold what we’ve got’ rather than go for ‘in our own hands control’? Interesting.

Game Summary

The dream is still alive. Though the final outcome may not be in our hands – the fault for that lies principally in giving away earlier games.

This was not like the Chelsea game. We are a team that plays best pressing a team with possession, hitting them on the break. The conundrum of how to stay aggressive and penetrative when relentlessly recycling possession is not one we’ve yet solved.

We started with energy, went flaccid, came alive on the half-hour and again at the end (when two of the stars of the weekend arrived to provide the threat absent in the play of Lucas and Lamela). Inter never had any intention of playing but like an old pro boxer were intent on getting inside and spoiling.

A win at the Nou Camp is far from out of the question. There’s not that much between Inter and PSV. The dream is still alive.
