Well, there you have it. The season has (all but!!) ended. Not with a bang but a whimper. Spurs played for twenty minutes like … well …Champions of Europe. Thereafter, like this was a rather unnecessary inconvenience that had to be got through. Which largely it was. Everton played like Arsenal were never going to be in it and we played like we were never truly interested in toppling Chelsea in third.
A few months ago I headed for the Dripping Pan to watch that fabulous supporter-owned club, Lewes, play Tottenham Ladies. Being the idiot I am – and thanks to those correspondents who have reminded me of the fact over the course of the season – I had got the date wrong. Well, congratulations to that team on two counts. Firstly, promotion to the elite division and, secondly, for being allowed to ditch that name from the nineteenth century and become Tottenham Women. Here’s to them having a higher profile next season. Spurs have been too slow in investing in the women’s game.
Congratulations to Sonny for winning everything supporters clubs could offer – it couldn’t happen to a nicer fella. Sissoko would have won most improved player by a country mile.
