Trippier played well enough. I know I’m supposed to be able to produce snap judgements but I don’t know why we were so vulnerable down his flank, especially in the first half. I’d like to review the game but I suspect it’s a matter of positioning and the fact that he’s drawn up and out may be strategy rather than a direct failing on his part.

Match Summary

Points for artist impression? Perhaps not so many. Points in the Premiership Table? All three. Without Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who’d have dreamed four wins on the bounce? It’s remarkable tenacity for which the manager and his whole squad must take credit. The whole teamed worked hard for it but the world class players (in Eriksen, Lloris and Son) made the critical contributions.

In the first half, the game was remarkably open and, towards the end of the second, Spurs fell back, seemingly tired, inviting Leicester on. So, there were elements of fortune in the result, strangely since we are so used to seeing the team manage games with suffocating efficiency.

Of course, referee blame is the last resort of the terminally desperate, but in that first half especially, Michael Oliver! People talk about adding insult to injury, but swapping a penalty for a completely unjustified card has to be even worse.
