Lloris – 8
Even mild mannered Lloris at one point lost his rag with the sloppy work in front of him. They hit the woodwork a couple of times, once following a magnificent touch from the keeper. He also made a stunning double save. Even when it looked like Spurs were cruising, he would have been able to point out he was keeping them in it.
It was a tepid affair. Let’s face it after Sunday’s trauma it was just what the team needed in terms of rehab. Southampton were so tentative that Spurs grew increasingly sloppy, finally – with a three goal cushion – relinquishing the contest entirely, allowing Southampton to pass prettily in front of them. The goal was somewhat inevitable and who would begrudge Southampton the consolation?
The result, coupled with Chelsea and Arsenal’s inability to get three points in their respective matches last night means that Tottenham move up to third in the Premier League table.
Next up is a trip to Leicester City on Saturday evening.
