Gallery: Spurs academy player trains with first team ahead of Newcastle match

Tottenham Hotspur were on the training field at Hotspur Way yesterday with the players being put through their paces ahead of the visit of Newcastle United on Sunday.

While the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Serge Aurier and Jan Vertonghen were all spotted, there was also an appearance from Japhet Tanganga who appeared in photos which were taken at today’s session.

The 20-year-old central defender was left out of Tottenham Under-23’s 2-1 defeat to Derby County which took place on another pitch at Hotspur Way yesterday with the club instead deciding to continue his involvement with the first team.

Tangana impressed during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the Far East and Audi Cup fixtures.

He was also a back-up for Mauricio Pochettino’s match day squad for the Premier League opener against Aston Villa while Jan Vertonghen had to watch on from the stand.

Vertonghen has yet to feature in Tottenham’s opening two Premier League matches and had to make do with a place on the bench against Manchester City.

If Tangana makes the squad ahead of Vertonghen for the visit of Newcastle on Sunday, it will all but confirm there is something seriously wrong between Pochettino and the 32-year-old.
