Bale to miss Everton and Basel matches confirms AVB

Tottenham Hotspur are hopeful that Gareth Bale will only miss two matches after he was stretchered off during the 2-2 draw with Basle.

Bale fell awkwardly on his right foot in injury time in what looked a nasty ankle injury, but AVB is hoping that the injury is not as bad as first feared.

The Welshman will definitely miss Sunday’s visit of Everton, along with the return leg against Basle in Switzerland next Thursday.

Villas-Boas said: “It shouldn’t be as bad as it looks on the image.

“There is a big, big possibility if we stay positive that he will be fit for the Man City game [on 21 April] and it will only take him out of two games.”

He added: “There’s lots of swelling. The pain is obviously very big. He will have a scan tomorrow [Friday].”

“He rolled on his ankle, at the moment there is a lot of pain, but hopefully not as bad as it could have been,”

“We still have a big squad and the ability to adapt [without Bale]. We just have to play against Everton [on Sunday] and see when these players get back to make us even stronger.”
