Harry Redknapp singles out Spurs player who kept getting caught out against Man Utd

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager has criticised Serge Aurier following his performance against Manchester United.

The Ivorian had played relatively well in Jose Mourinho’s opening three matches in charge having found himself in the starting eleven for each fixture.

However, the former PSG player showed he still has inconsistencies to his game after being caught out defensively at Old Trafford.

Redknapp cited the fact that Aurier’s positional sense was an issue during the 2-1 defeat and believed that it meant that Moussa Sissoko was unable to focus on his own game after he was forced to fill the void left by his team-mate.

Sissoko was guilty of giving away a penalty just three minutes into the second half when he tracked the run of Marcus Rashford down left side of the pitch and tripped the United forward in the box.

Redknapp said during his punditry appearance on Amazon Prime TV (9:38pm, December 4, 2019):”Sissoko has end up covering at right-back all night. All he has done is he has filled in spaces Aurier keeps getting caught out of, and Sissoko has ended up playing at right-back. He has never been in the middle of the park to get control of the football.”

Opinion

Aurier is a defensive liability and his lack of positional sense means that he cannot be trusted.

Mourinho has to look to address our right-back options in January or show faith in Juan Foyth to show what he can do.
