“He’s the Stupid One” – Former striker blasts Mourinho

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has been accused of being stupid by former Leeds United forward for breaching government guidelines.

Mourinho was pictured on Hadley Common with midfielder Tanguy Ndombele where they held a one-on-one training session in breach of the government regulations that permit people to exercise outdoors during the coronavirus pandemic only with members of their household.

Ryan Sessegnon and Davinson Sanchez were also spotted jogging at the same location (NBC Sports).

The Portuguese, who wore a Spurs training top and tracksuit bottoms later admitted his actions were wrong (Football.London).

Whelan believes that Mourinho has set a bad example over his decision and did not hold back with his damning verdict of the man who replaced Mauricio Pochettino in N17 at the end of November.

The headlines came after Spurs attracted widespread criticism for their decision to furlough 550 of the club’s non-playing staff last week with 20 per cent wage cuts imposed for April and May.

Whelan told Football Insider: “It’s a lack of respect for the government rules,”

“You’ve got young lads looking at that thinking. ‘it’s okay’. They’ll be thinking ‘if they can do it, we can do it’. It’s not the case – nobody should be doing it.

“There’s a lockdown for a reason. No-one is bigger than what is going on right now.

“It’s scary times, it’s worrying times, people are dying, the NHS is overworked, and you’ve got people out there feeling they can do whatever the hell they like. You can’t. You’ve got to set examples.

“Unfortunately, they’ve let themselves down. This is even worse because it’s in plain sight.

“You’ve got someone here who calls himself the Special One. Right now, he’s the Stupid One. It’s irresponsible. What the hell is he playing at?”
