Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have made an official request to the EFL to play their Carabao Cup third round match against Watford at a neutral stadium.
Spurs were drawn at home in the competition which is otherwise known as the League Cup, but with the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium and Wembley both unavailable to hold the fixture during the week commencing Monday 24th September, the club have taken the decision to request the match is played at a neutral venue.
The club also had the possible option of reversing the fixture to Watford’s Vicarage Road, but have instead requested a different venue.
A statement on the official Carabao Cup Twitter page read: “With
@SpursOfficial being drawn at home to @WatfordFC in Round Three of the #CarabaoCup, the Club has applied for a special dispensation from the EFL Board to play their tie at a neutral venue due to the unavailability of Wembley Stadium and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.”
