How Rafael van der Vaart described his first time wearing a Spurs shirt

You only have to say the name “Rafael van der Vaart” and it fills Tottenham Hotspur fans with heartwarming memories of the Dutchman’s time at White Hart Lane.

The midfield maestro made his Premier League debut for us eight years ago today and has taken to Twitter to describe his time in a Spurs shirt as “love at first sight”.

Van der Vaart joined for just £8million in the final few hours of the 2010 deadline day window from Real Madrid in what has to be one of our best bits of business in recent years.

He went on to score 28 goals for Spurs in 77 appearances over three seasons, but left for Hamburg after Harry Redknapp was sacked and was not given a fair chance by Andre Villas-Boas who preferred to play Gylfi Sigurdsson in the same position.

Although VDV’s departure from the club was premature, we still have plenty of memories of his time at the club.
