Lloris: Eight cup finals for Spurs

There may be eight Premier League matches remaining of the current campaign but Hugo Lloris is refusing to become complacent.

With a battle for Champions League football still to play for, back-to-back Premier League defeats at the hands of Liverpool and Fulham have put the pressure on Spurs to come away from Swansea with all three points.

The French keeper who has been superb since his switch from Lyon has likened the next eight matches to eight cup finals and he’s right, if we don’t finish in the Champions League places again – this season will have been a disaster.

He told the Daily Mail: “Maybe the fight is between Chelsea and Arsenal and Tottenham. We can do it and I hope we will.

“I have big confidence because we have good character. We’ve proved it this season and now we have to show it on the pitch.

“We did very well for 12 games and we lost against Liverpool and Fulham, but the most important thing is the reaction.

“”I think the international break was a good thing for us, to help us find energy for the end of the season. We now have eight games which are like eight finals.”

Lloris says Tottenham’s players have the ambition to finish inside the club’s top four every year but admits Villas-Boas’ men need more experience at Champions League level.

“I think Tottenham have the quality today to challenge other teams but we need time because we don’t have experience,’ he added.

“In a few seasons we can close that deficit but we need time and we need to play high-level games in the Champions League.

“We have ambition to put this club in the top four every year.”
