‘I went to France and met him in a hotel room’ – Redknapp rues missed Spurs signing

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has spoken out about how close he came to signing Eden Hazard for Spurs whilst he was still in charge in 2012.

When speaking for BT Sport, Redknapp claimed that a deal was close for Hazard, who was playing his football at the time for Lille and that he had talked with former Chelsea and West Ham midfielder Joe Cole. Hazard was described as ‘the best player’ Cole has ever played with.

But many of Europe’s elite clubs wanted the then promising Belgian and Spurs eventually missed out on him. He eventually ended up joining Chelsea in a deal worth £32million.

“I went to France and met him in a hotel room,” Redknapp told BT Sport Tonight.

“I was with him for three hours, that’s probably why he didn’t sign!

“I could have had him at Tottenham.

“We wanted him but the club didn’t get the deal done.”
