Cristian Romero’s parents have revealed that the Tottenham star bought them a house with his first salary as a professional footballer.
Romero is a no-nonsense type of defender, who often plays like an animal on the pitch and shows no mercy to his opponents.
It turns out that despite his aggressive and unforgiving on-field demeanour, Romero is quite different off it, with his parents explaining that the 25-year-old is someone who does not hesitate to make sacrifices for his loved ones and puts his family first.
Cristian Romero is an angel away from football
They narrated an emotional anecdote, revealing that the Spurs star decided to use his first paycheck to buy them a new house.
His father, Victor, told Radio Villa (as relayed by TyC Sports): “With his first salary, I remember that he called his mother and asked her to choose the house she wanted. He gifted the house to his mother.”
Romero’s mom, Rosa, elaborated on the story, explaining that it came as a surprise, with the defender taking them to first see various houses before revealing that it was for them.
She said: “My birthday was coming up, and 20 days before, I was taken to see different houses. I thought it was a house that Cuti wanted to buy for himself, because I always stressed to him that he should invest in a roof over his head. I didn’t have my own house, and when he showed me around, he asked me if I liked it.
“I was delighted, it was a beautiful brand new house and suddenly he said to me: ‘This house is my birthday present’. To this day, I remember that and I can’t go on, I get emotional.”

As with many footballers from South America, it sounds like Romero has come from humble beginnings, with footballing being his ticket out of poverty.
That is perhaps the reason why South American footballers have the passion they do for the game as they had to fight hard to get where they have.
