“It’s not great” – Spurs defender is not optimistic about his injury

Serge Aurier could be a doubt for the start of Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-season campaign.

The right-back suffered a muscular injury in the 70th minute of the Ivory Coasts’s 1-0 defeat to Morrocco in the Africa Cup of Nations yesterday evening.

The Spurs player who was captaining his country at the competition feels that his involvement could be over and will today undergo a scan on his leg to find out the extent of the damage.

Ivory Coast won their opening match against Namibia before suffering defeat to Morrocco and will now play South Africa in a crucial match to see who will progress as runners up in Group D.

He told Sport24: “I think it’s finished for me. I felt a pull or a tear. We’re going to do a test tomorrow (Saturday) and we’ll see. It’s not great,”

Aurier missed 12 matches for Spurs last season due to a hamstring injury after only returning to fitness early last month (Transfermarkt).

With doubts over the long term future of fellow right-back Kieran Trippier in North London, if Aurier’s injury is bad then it could force Spurs either to up their game in the pursuit of a right-back or even shelve any exit plans for Trippier.
