Jamie Redknapp singles out Spurs player who he thought would be sold for special praise

Moussa Sissoko has had one of the biggest transformations in form of any Tottenham Hotspur player in living memory.

The Frenchman arrived in North London in 2016 for a then club record fee of £30million from Newcastle United and penned a five-year deal (BBC).

Sissoko had failed to win over the majority of Spurs fans in his first two seasons at the club.

In his first season he made just eight Premier League starts and only went on to feature in fifteen top flight matches from the beginning last season which saw him left out of France’s World Cup squad that went on to win the tournament in Russia.

However, he has transformed his Spurs career this season and he is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Former Tottenham midfielder turned football pundit Jamie Redknapp singled Sissoko out for praise when selecting his Premier League team of the season.

While the 29-year-old did not make it into Redknapp’s chosen eleven, he described Sissoko as a ‘midfield powerhouse’.

Redknapp said in his column for the Daily Mail: “Unexpected star – Moussa Sissoko’s emergence as Tottenham’s midfield powerhouse.

“I was not alone in thinking that Sissoko would be heading for the exit door last summer. Instead, injuries to Harry Winks and the sale of Mousa Dembele forced Mauricio Pochettino to move Sissoko into the middle.

“It proved a masterstroke — and only underlines just how much Pochettino improves players.”
