Janssen scores first goal for Spurs in over two years

Vincent Janssen is back amongst the goals for Tottenham Hotspur after netting early on for the Under-23’s in the Premier League International Cup tie against Athletic Club Bilbao.

After four minutes of action at the Lamex Stadium, Anthony Georgiou played a ball through to Janssen on the left side and the Dutchman slid the ball home past the keeper from close range.

Janssen has not played in a competitive match for Spurs since appearing as a late replacement against Chelsea at Wembley on August 20th 2017.

Despite the fact that some Spurs fans had been holding out hope that the 24-year-old could still have a future at the club, particularly with Harry Kane’s injury and Heung-min Son’s international duty. However, Mauricio Pochettino once again today insisted there is no chance of a U-turn.

Janssen scored six goals in 39 games in competitive action for Tottenham and will continue to feature for the Under-23’s to build his match fitness until a suitable offer is made to take him away from Hotspur Way.
