Any possibility of Tottenham Hotspur signing Giuseppe Rossi in January look to be over.
The Italian striker will be out for six months after suffering cruciate ligament damage in Villarreal’s 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid.
Scans have revealed the extent of the injury and he will undergo surgery on Thursday night.
Harry Redknapp is known to be a big fan of the former Manchester United forward and was keen to bring him to the Lane during the summer.
A statement on Villarreal’s official website read: “Worst fears have been confirmed. Villarreal’s Italy striker Giuseppe Rossi seriously injured in his right knee in the match against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu and is out for six months.”
