John Barnes on who will win between Liverpool and Tottenham in Champions League final

John Barnes has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League final clash against Liverpool on June 1st.

Both sides will meet in Madrid with Liverpool looking to win their sixth European title, while Spurs find themselves in the final for the first time in their history.

Barnes, a legend at Liverpool has warned his former side not to expect an easy match and despite the reds beating Mauricio Pochettino’s side twice in the Premier League this season, it means nothing when it comes to a cup final.

Liverpool are looking to make up for their Premier League disappointing by bringing the Chanpions League trophy back to Anfield and Spurs are seeking their first piece of silverware in over eleven years.

The former England midfielder refused to name who will win the match by insisting that there is no favourite and believes that anything can happen.

Spurs booked their place in the final following a spirited second half performance against Ajax. Liverpool came from 3-0 down in the semi final first leg to win the return fixture against Barcelona 4-9.

Barnes told The Sport Review when posed the question about Liverpool’s chances of winning: “Just like Tottenham’s. They are two good teams who are equally as capable.

“We beat them twice this season but the 2-1 victory at home we were very fortunate to beat them. Tottenham know about us and they are strong and physical.

“I don’t necessarily make anybody favourites. Anything can happen and I hope we can do it.”

Opinion

While Liverpool will no doubt be considered favourites by many going into the fixture, Mauricio Pochettino will have other ideas.

Despite Liverpool doing the double over Spurs, the match at Anfield could have easily have been a win for the lilywhites had Moussa Sissoko scored late on in the Premier League encounter.
