Journalist claims Spurs did not push to land player on loan

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans went no further than an enquiry, according to respected Belgian football journalist Kristof Terreur.

Tielemans is expected to complete a loan move to Leicester City ahead of the transfer window closing on Thursday evening with Adrien Silva moving the other way as part of a loan swap.

Tielemans is a product of the Anderlecht youth system and has long been rated as one of the best young prospects to come out of Belgium in recent years.

He joined Monaco for around £21m (Sky Sports) in May 2017 and was part of the Belgium squad that reached the semi-finals of last year’s World Cup.

According to the Telegraph, sources at Monaco claimed that Tottenham Daniel Levy was willing to sanction the move and was waiting for approval from Mauricio Pochettino to progress further.

Instead, Tielemans will head to Leicester today to complete a medical and could be in their squad for their Premier League match against Manchester United at the weekend.

Terreur took to Twitter last night to confirm the news.
