Journalist clarifies Tanguy Ndombele’s omission from the Spurs squad

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed their line up for today’s match against Brighton at 11:30 this afternoon and there was a surprising omission.

Club record signing Tanguy Ndombele was not named in the starting eleven or even on the substitutes bench which left a number of Spurs fans scratching their heads.

Some supporters even assumed that the French midfielder was once again injured after being left out by Jose Mourinho.

It has now been confirmed by journalists in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that Ndombele has been simply left out of the squad by Mourinho and is not suffering from injury.

The Portuguese has instead decided to go with a central midfield pairing of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks, with Winks coming into the line up with Eric Dier dropping down to the bench.

PA Sport journalist Jonathan Veal took to Twitter to explain Ndombele’s absence.

Opinion

Unless Mourinho is resting Ndombele for the match against Norwich, it is a baffling decision not to have him involved.

The Winks/Sissoko partnership has failed on a number of occasions, most recently away to Manchester United.
