Tottenham keeper Jordan Archer will return to the club next month after Northampton Town decided to end his loan spell.
The 21-year-old had been with the Cobblers since August and was tasked with challenging Matt Duke for a first-team spot.
He had made 16 appearances for the League Two side to date who are 19th in the table and was sent off in his last appearance against Southend in November.
“We’ve made the decision to go with Dukey for the rest of the season,” boss Chris Wilder told the Northampton Chronicle.
“We feel that you work with a budget and it’s not a problem for us to have him in goal.
“We’d like competition in every area but I might have to put a bit of money somewhere else and I don’t see it as an issue to have Matt in goal.
“Matt has done well when he has played.”
