BBC football ‘pundit’ Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Unsurprisingly the former Liverpool defender has sat on the fence and has gone for a 1-1 draw for the match at Wembley.
Last time out, Lawro correctly predicted that Tottenham would beat Bournemouth. However, he predicted a 2-0 scoreline, when it ended up as 1-0 victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s side courtesy of a Christian Eriksen strike.
Personally, I think we’ll beat Liverpool on Sunday. The players will have a new found level of confidence in them after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against European Champions Real Madrid. Granted, Liverpool put seven goals past Maribor, but they are hardly an elite European team.
“When asked for his prediction, Lawrenson told BBC Sport Online: “It has been a good week for Tottenham, who broke their Wembley hoodoo in the Premier League by beating Bournemouth, and were very good against Real in their draw in Madrid in the Champions League.
“Liverpool enjoyed themselves against Maribor on Tuesday but this is obviously going to be a much tougher game for them.
“It is going to be close. I can see the Reds scoring, but I don’t see them keeping Spurs out.
“Lawro’s prediction: 1-1.”
