Liverpool defender highlights one thing his side have over Spurs

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez believes that his side hold an advantage over Tottenham Hotspur going into the Champions League final.

Both sides meet in Madrid on June 1st at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium where Liverpool can win their sixth European Cup while Spurs find themselves in the final for the first time in their history.

Last season, Liverpool were on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the final when former Spur Gareth Bale scored the winning goals to break the hearts of Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Gomes believes that the experience of playing in a final will be an advantage to Liverpool.

Spurs booked their place in the final after a remarkable second half comeback against Ajax.

Liverpool were also impressive in their 4-0 win against Barcelona at Anfield with overturned the 3-0 loss they suffered in the first leg.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown fantastic character this season when they have looked dead and buried on more than one occasion, while Liverpool may have the experience of last season, Spurs have also been on a learning curve through this year’s competition.

Gomez told talkSPORT: “I definitely think we go into this final in a different place,” he added.

“It’s still a Champions League final and they’re always separate occasions and you have to approach it with the same mentality.

But I think this year speaks for itself and the growth in the team has been massive.

“(The manager) shows and emphasises the fact that we’re a different team and we can’t go into thinking that we’re the same team.

“In that sense, we can take the confidence from that, but still have the desire to win one because we know what it means for this club and we want to get the sixth star.”
