Liverpool player hints it was nice to see Spurs lose

Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri has somewhat claimed that it was ‘nice to see’ Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 3-1 surprise loss at Wembley means that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now nine points behind the Premier League leaders after they dismantled Arsenal at Anfield.

While Shaqiri stopped short of mentioning Tottenham by name, his reference was in relation to teams who are coming after Liverpool in the race for the title.

Tottenham will be looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they travel to Wales to face Cardiff City in an evening kick-off, while Manchester City host Liverpool on Thursday in a match that sees first face second.

If City can beat Liverpool and Spurs win at Cardiff, the Premier League table would look as follows

Liverpool – 54 points

Manchester City – 50 points

Tottenham – 48 points

Nothing less than a victory will do for Spurs, or they will face potentially being either 12 points behind Liverpool (if Liverpool win) or 5 points behind Manchester City (if City win) and Spurs lose.

Shaqiri told the Daily Express: “I think everybody when they see some teams struggle, who are behind you and coming after you, it’s nice to see obviously.

“But, in the end, we look to ourselves and win our games.”
