Man United offer transfer ultimatum to Tottenham

Manchester United are reported to have issued an ultimatum to Tottenham Hotspur over the potential signing of Toby Alderweireld ahead of the transfer window closing on Thursday.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Old Trafford outfit have made a final bid for the Belgian defender which is said to be around £40million, while Daniel Levy is holding out for £55million.

Alderweireld’s contract contains a one-year extension option, which is scheduled to activate next summer and would see him contracted until 2020. But it also features a £25m release clause. Next summer, the central defender would be permitted to leave if a rival club were to pay £25m and complete the transfer at least 14 days before the closure of the window.

This report comes from the exact same paper who claimed on Saturday that United were closing in on a deal for the 29-year-old and were confident of getting their man within 48 hours, which has now been and gone and Toby is still a Tottenham player.

I’ll be glad come 5pm on Thursday so we can focus on matters on the pitch.
