Mark Lawrenson on who will win between Man Utd and Spurs

BBC football ‘pundit’ Mark Lawrenson has had his say on who he thinks will win the Premier League clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both sides meet at Old Trafford on Bank Holiday Monday evening, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side looking to continue their 100% start to the season, while Jose Mourinho’s men will be looking to restore some pride following their defeat to Brighton on the south coast last weekend.

Lawrenson believes that Tottenham will once again leave Manchester empty-handed with us experiencing our first defeat of the new campaign. Personally, I think United are there for the taking and we can pile the pressure on Mourinho, especially if they try and set out so defensively.

Last time out, Lawrenson correctly predicted that Tottenham would beat Fulham, but said it would be a 2-0 win when in fact it ended 3-1 at Wembley against the Premier League newcomers.

He told BBC Sport Online: “Tottenham do not have a very good record at Old Trafford – they have lost their past five trips to Old Trafford, scoring just once.

“Manchester United will be hurting after being rolled over by Brighton. There seem to be some tensions there and there will be people with points to prove.

“Mourinho will be very intent on, once again, stopping Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in the Spurs attack.”
