Mark Lawrenson predicts who will win between Spurs and Aston Villa

BBC football pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his prediction ahead of tomorrow evening’s Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

Tottenham will be looking to put the heartbreak of the Champions League final behind them with a win in front of their own supporters.

After starting life in their new stadium as somewhat of a fortress when winning their first four games without conceding upon their return to N17, Spurs are winless in their last three at their new home (D1 L2).

With Liverpool and Manchester City expected to be the two teams that everyone has to keep up with if they wish to challenge for the title, it will be important that Spurs begin their campaign with all three points.

Club record signing Tanguy Ndombele will be likely to earn full Premier League debut against the Premier League newcomers.

Lawrenson expects Spurs to get the win with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad proving to be too much of a match for Dean Smith’s side.

He told BBC Sport: “Aston Villa’s summer transfer signings have made a lot of sense, and they have also got good momentum after the way they came up from the Championship – although I cannot see it helping them too much on Saturday.

“I think Spurs will be far too strong for them, but Villa still have the best chance of staying up of any of the promoted teams.”
