Matt Le Tissier on how many Spurs players would get into the Liverpool team

Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier has given his opinion on how many Tottenham Hotspur players would earn a place in the Liverpool starting eleven.

Spurs make the trip to Merseyside on Sunday to face the Premier League leaders with Mauricio Pochettino’s side having only managed to win two of their last six top flight matches.

The former Southampton man believes that only Harry Kane would be a strong case for consideration to make it into Jurgen Klopp’s team.

He did consider Toby Alderweireld but the Belgian’s form this season has been below his usual high standards while Heung-min Son misses out from a positioning point of view.

Tottenham are seeking their first win at Anfield since 2011 when Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric were both on target in a 2-0 win for Harry Redknapp’s side.

Le Tissier told Sporting Life: “This is another really good question! You could make a case for Toby Alderweireld alongside Virgil van Dijk, although he has not been up to his usual standards this season.

“I think Heung-min Son plays too far forward to fit in the middle three or one that could potentially play behind a front three. He is an intelligent footballer and could do a job in an attacking three behind those front three, but I am not sure you could argue with anyone easily getting into that Liverpool team.

“Harry Kane is the strongest case you could make, but other than that, I don’t think you can.”

Opinion

There aren’t too many arguments over Le Tissier’s claim especially given the current form of the Spurs players. While Alderweireld and Eriksen may have been in contention, given their displays this season – they are fortunate to be in the Spurs team, let alone Liverpool’s.
