Mauricio Pochettino explains why it has been an important week for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur’s embarrassing exit from the Carabao Cup following the penalty shoot out defeat at the hands of League Two outfit Colchester United has given Mauricio Pochettino a window of opportunity to work with his squad.

With Spurs not featuring in midweek action due to the round of sixteen ties taking place, it has allowed Pochettino a full week on the training pitch with his players.

Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool saw the North London club drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table following what has been nothing short of a disastrous start to the season.

Pochettino was asked during the pre-Everton press conference at Hotspur Way about having the opportunity to work with his squad over the past seven days without interruptions.

The Argentine described it as an important week following the disappointment at Anfield and is focused on returning on Merseyside on Sunday with the aim of beating Everton.

He told Football.London: “It was an important week to recover the feelings after a tough game against Liverpool.

“We know very well it is our responsibility to deliver a very good job and very good performance on Sunday against a very good team like Everton trying to win because it’s going to be the best medicine to fix all.”
