“Maybe the best striker in the world” – Ex-Barcelona midfielder praises Harry Kane

Former Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic has labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane as arguably the best striker in world football on current form

Kane has hit the ground running this season having scored 19 goals in all competitions and has also proved he is an equally good creator with 14 assists in 27 appearances (transfermarkt).

Rakitic is likely to come up against the England captain next summer with Croatia having been drawn in the same group as Gareth Southgate’s side in the European Championships.

Rakitic, who returned to Sevilla in the summer after making 310 appearances for Barcelona (transfermarkt) believes that England can be considered as one of the favourites to win the tournament.

Southgate has already admitted that he will be difficult to prepare his squad given the uncertainty of whether it will go ahead due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (Daily Mail).

The 32-year-old was asked about his opinion about the new generation of English talent coming through, and what can they achieve together, he said during an event with LiveScore as quoted by BT: “It’s hard to pick out one player because England is a very strong team.

“They have maybe the best striker in the world at the moment in Harry Kane. I think their team is extremely well-prepared to achieve a lot of special things, not only in the UEFA European Championships but also at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. They have more successful years ahead of them so it will be really hard to play against them.”
