Tottenham Hotspur’s eleven year wait for silverware continued on Thursday night after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage by Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have the opportunity to put the disappointment of the cup exit behind them on Sunday afternoon when they play their third London derby in the space of a week.
Spurs will make the trip to south London to face Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the FA Cup and will once more be without their key attacking threats.
Heung-min Son is on his way back from international duty following South Korea’s surprise exit in the Asian Cup at the hands of Qatar, but will not arrive back in time to feature at Selhurst Park.
Harry Kane and Dele Alli are both out of action until early March, meaning that Pochettino is likely to try and rely on the likes of Fernando Llorente once again.
Football pundit Michael Owen believes that Spurs will be held to a draw and will have to face the Eagles in a replay.
He told BetVictor: “The last six games between the clubs in all competitions have all finished 1-0 with Spurs winning five of those half dozen games.
“The Eagles played their part in a terrific game at Anfield on Saturday, but Spurs showed their mettle to come from behind to win at Craven Cottage 24-hours later. Spurs may not want a replay with the Champions League last 16 ties with Borussia Dortmund on the horizon, but I feel they will be grateful for another crack at Palace back at Wembley in what looks like being one of the ties of the round.”
