Midfielder linked with Spurs reveals he wants to play in England

Tottenham Hotspur have already been linked with a raft of potential new recruits over the course of the summer transfer window.

One name who has heavily featured in reference to Tottenham is Sporting Libson’s Bruno Fernandes (Telegraph).

It was reported last month that the 24-year-old’s agent had travelled to the UK to meet with Spurs officials in London to discuss a possible transfer while talks have also been held with fellow Premier League side Manchester United.

Fernandes has attracted attention after scoring an impressive 31 goals in 50 appearances for Sporting last season.

With the Premier League transfer window closing on Thursday 8th August at 5pm, the clock is certainly ticking on a potential deal.

The Portugal international has now spoken openly about his desire to play in England with Manchester United said to be the frontrunners to capture his signature (Metro).

With Tottenham reportedly close to a deal for Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso (Standard), it seems unlikely that the North London club would also look to recruit Fernandes.

He was quoted by talkSPORT as saying when asked about a possible exit: “The president decides that, not me.

“I don’t care about the market, I’ve talked about this many times. The only thing I can do now is that I need to catch the plane so I don’t miss it.

“Will this be the last match for Sporting? I don’t know, it’s the coach who decides.

“I told you I’d like to play in England, but that’s not what interests me. It may be when the club decides.”
