Mourinho may have just given the strongest indication about Eriksen’s future

Jose Mourinho was once again asked about Christian Eriksen’s future following the FA Cup match against Middlesbrough.

The Dane played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 victory which booked Tottenham’s place in the fourth round of the competition.

Mourinho has always refused to disclose what Eriksen has decided regarding his future when previously asked by the media by instead insisting it is up to the 27-year-old to reveal (AS).

Eriksen is out of contract in North London at the end of the season and is currently able to hold discussions with clubs on the continent about a pre-contract deal which would see him leave the Champions League finalists as a free agent.

The playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan over the past few days (BBC).

Mourinho gave his strongest indication that Eriksen has decided to leave the club when he insisted that the supporters must look to respect the decision.

He told Football.London: “He played very well. Played very well, very professional which is what I expect from him. If his decision is to leave I think he has to leave with his head up, if he gives everything which is what he tries to do for the team. Fans, it’s always to respect, we have to respect but I think the boy did it for us today.”

Opinion

Mourinho is always calculated with what he reveals and has previously put the onus back on Eriksen to talk about his future. The fact that he is now mentioning Eriksen is to leave is certainly an advance warning about what is soon to happen.
