Tottenham Hotspur appear to be on the verge of signing Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio.

The 23-year-old central defender is valued at £21million by the Spanish side and momentum has been increasing over the past few days over a switch to the Lane.

Musacchio was absent from his club’s 2-0 friendly victory against Middlesbrough yesterday and Villarreal boss Marcelino Garcia Toral spoke to the press about the risk of losing the defender.

It seems as if it is more or less a done deal, apparently the fee has been agreed with just a issue between Villarreal, his agent and River Plate to tie up.

“Mateo is a very important player for Villarreal, a momentous player and his loss would be very difficult to cover. Moreover, he plays in a position which I have mentioned before that is extremely hard to reinforce.” He said, quoted by Spanish newspaper AS.

Mauricio Pochettino has already been busy strengthening his defence with the arrivals of Ben Davies and Eric Dier.  Could Musacchio be our next signing?  Have your say below.
