Newcastle ready to pay Townsend asking price

Newcastle United are willing to pay Tottenham Hotspur’s asking price of £12million according to a report in the Mail.

Townsend would prefer to go out on loan and settle future in the summer than move permanently in January, but is desperate to play football to try an salvage any outside hope he has of being named in England’s squad for the Euros.

Since falling out with Tottenham fitness coach Nathan Gardiner, Townsend has seen himself relegated to playing in the Under-21 squad.

Watford are also said to be keen on the winger – knowing Levy this will go down to the wire on transfer deadline day. It’s a shame to see a player who has come through the ranks and is a boyhood Spurs fan end his career at the club in such a way but it’s best for all parties if he now moves on and tries to get his career back on track.
