No signings? The Spurs team which Pochettino should pick to face Newcastle United

As things stand, we all know that Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make any additions to their squad over the course of the summer and remain the only Premier League club yet to do so.

The transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday and it got me thinking that if we failed to bring in any fresh faces, what would our starting eleven be for the Premier League opener against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Even if we do manage to bring in a fresh face of two, Pochettino has rarely risked throwing them straight into the deep end until they adapt to his methods, just look how little game time Lucas Moura managed following his switch from PSG in January.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has already stated that he will be carefully monitoring the nine players who were involved in the latter stages of the World Cup to see if they are physically ready for the match at St James’ Park.

As things currently stand, what would your Spurs team be for the match against the Magpies?  Here’s the team we would like to see start the game.

Trippier Vertonghen Sanchez Davies

Dier Dembele

Lucas Dele Eriksen

  1. Poch has already said in a few interviews that many of the returning players won’t play at Newcastle. This might be a bluff but clearly not all the world cup players are going to feature here.

I suspect the team will be nearer to:

    Aurier – Vertonghen – Sanchez – Davies
    Moura – Dier – Sissoko – Lamela
    Eriksen – Kane
