Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to reacts to Mauricio Pochettino’s team selection for the North London derby against Arsenal.

There has been one notable change to the starting line up to the Spurs side that takes to the field at the Emirates and that is the omission of Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian defender has been named among the substitutes for this afternoon’s clash with the returning Juan Foyth instead partnering Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the Spurs defence.

Alderweireld started both matches against Chelsea last Saturday in the Premier League and Wednesday night’s Champions League win against Inter Milan at Wembley.

It could possibly be that Pochettino has decided to give Alderweireld’s legs a rest, but some fans will question whether a derby against Arsenal is the right game to do so.

Jan Vertonghen has recently returned from a hamstring injury while fellow defender Davinson Sanchez is sidelined with a similar problem.

Here’s what some of the Spurs fans had to say about Alderweireld’s omission.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Astounding decision by Poch. If you need to rest Toby, then do so on Wednesday against Southampton. This could conceivably cost us the game. Foyth conceded 2 penalties against Wolves and should have conceded one against Chelsea. The kid has real promise, but he should not be starting in a game of this magnitude.
