Opinion: Player ratings from Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace

Tottenham saw their 100 per cent Premier League record come to an end in dismal fashion after they were beaten 3-0 by a spirited Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Here’s how the individual players fared today:

Hugo Lloris – 6 – Had a shaky start with a couple of wayward kicks, one of which let to Dier suffering a heavy blow to the shin. Somewhat improved as the game progressed and made a good save in tight on Gallagher before half time.

Emerson Royal – 7 – A steady debut overall. Tried to provide an outlet and create from wide areas but caught out by Zaha on a couple of occasions. The Brazilian definitely has more to offer in better circumstances.

Japhet Tanganga – 5 – Sent off before the hour mark after picking up two yellow cards within five minutes. Made a cynical challenge on Zaha and then showed his inexperience by lunging in on Ayew. Had actually played confidently before the red card, though, making a number of clearances and challenges on Benteke to nullify the aerial threat.

Eric Dier – 6 – Made a decent start to the game before taking a big hit on the shin from Jordan Ayew on the stretch from a misplaced pass from Lloris. Looked in a lot of discomfort while walking back to the dressing room.

Sergio Reguilon – 7 – Made a crucial clearance off the line after Mitchell’s cross eluded Lloris. Blocked a Gallagher effort in close in the first half before Lloris saved the rebound. Couldn’t maraud forward as much as he would have liked and caught out in behind at points.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 6 – Okay in possession and tried to push forward at times, but sometimes overrun along with his teammates in midfield. Definitely had more commanding days.

Harry Winks – 5 – Passing radar was off at times and often played for the safe option instead of going forward. Sacrificed on the hour mark for Davies after Spurs were down to ten men.

Oliver Skipp – 6 – Sometimes bypassed a bit too easily in the middle and struggled to keep up with the game’s intensity. Did okay in possession when he had to be.

Dele Alli – 5.5 – Often loose in possession and struggled to get into any sort of flow, albeit on the left of the front three. Threw his body in front of an Ayew half volley. Not the midfielder’s most convincing display.

Lucas Moura – 8 – Arguably Tottenham’s biggest threat. Used his pace and trickery to good effect to drive the team up the pitch. Slightly faded as Spurs were chasing the game and picked up a booking for dissent in his frustration.

Harry Kane – 5 – Isolated and struggled to get into the game at all. Tried to link up with the midfield by dropping deep and had difficult holding up the ball on his own. Didn’t have a shot on goal on what was a difficult afternoon all round.

Substitutes:

Joe Rodon – 7 – Came on for Dier after 12 minutes and slotted in well. Threw his body in front of a dangerous Gallagher volley early in the second half. Marshalled the defence as best as he could following Tanganga’s red card.

Ben Davies – 4 – Gave away a penalty after Gallagher’s cross smacked against his outstretched arm. Nutmegged and slightly deflected Edouard’s first strike past Lloris. A cameo to forget overall for the Welshman after coming on while a man down.
