Paul Merson on who will come out on top between Tottenham and Bournemouth

Sky Sports football pundit Paul Merson has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to beat Bournemouth on Boxing Day.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side go into the match at Wembley full of confidence having just thrashed Everton 6-2 on their own patch, courtesy of a brace apiece from Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, with Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli also chipping in.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth are having a pretty solid season of their own and currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table having beaten Brighton 2-0 in their last match.

The victory was the Cherries first in their last six matches.

Spurs fans will be expecting nothing less than three points from the game to continue the festive cheer and keep the pressure on Manchester City who are just two points better off having lost to Crystal Palace.

Merson expects Tottenham to beat Bournemouth and continue to prove the doubters wrong that they could indeed challenge for the Premier League title come the end of the season.

Merson told Sky Sports: “I expect Spurs to win this and if they do, they are still in the title hunt. This is a much easier game than Man City have, in my opinion, and before you know it, they can be challengers.

“So it is funny how it works, but I think Spurs will win this one as Bournemouth are a funny team – they lose six out of seven, then they win on Saturday and they are one of those teams that could now go and win six on the trot…

“Prediction: 3-0.”
